One of the most common complaints we receive from people about their appearance is broken veins. As we age, veins can become more prominent in terms of their visibility on the face and legs. This can become an issue during the summer months, as people who suffer with broken veins often become nervous about showing parts of their body which are affected. Luckily, there are broken vein treatments to improve the appearance of broken veins – the most popular of which we provide here at Skin Perfection. In this article, we’ll explore why broken veins develop and how our treatments work to improve their appearance.
Also known as ‘spider veins’ or ‘thread veins’ – broken veins are extremely narrow blood vessels situated immediately below the surface of skin, and as such have become much more visible. Typically they like purple or red lines and are most commonly found on the legs and the face. If left untreated, broken veins can become larger over time. It’s important to mention here that broken veins are completely harmless – and despite their name, there’s nothing ‘broken’ in terms of how they function. There’s no specific cause for broken veins – they’re just a common sign of ageing as the skin loses its elasticity.
So how do we treat broken veins? We offer a treatment called laser photo-facial skin rejuvenation. This works by emitting light energy to areas of the skin with red lesions – which tend to include broken veins. The treatment works because the heat from the laser tightens the skin and closes open pores, which in turn creates collagen and elastin. After the treatment, patients can expect their broken veins to look more prominent for a period of approximately 10 – 14 days. Once this period has passed, this fades dramatically, leaving smoother and clearer skin. Many patients worry about the safety of using lasers to treat problems such as broken veins – however, this treatment is completely safe. What’s more, the treatment is made more comfortable through skin cooling technology on the laser handsets. The skin will feel quite warm after treatments are completed, but by applying cooling ice packs to the treated skin area, patients typically experience minimal discomfort.
