Dermaroller (Microneedling)
Dermaroller has been popular for many years as a non-surgical skin remodelling treatment; it works by encouraging the production of collagen and elastin, two proteins which keep skin taught, toned and youthful looking. As we age, collagen and elastin is depleted and this can result in thinner skin with lines and wrinkles, scars and stretch marks. Many ablative treatments damage or partly remove the epidermis to reach the dermis (where collagen and elastin are found) and achieve skin resurfacing. Dermaroller is different.
Dermaroller needles penetrate through the epidermis without removing it (the epidermis is only punctured so the skin heals quickly). The body receives a ‘mini-trauma’ and the skin’s natural regeneration process is activated. During the treatment, not only is type III collagen (healthy collagen) increased but growth factors are also released, stimulating the production of new skin cells. Over a course of treatment, the new, healthy collagen moves up towards the skin’s surface, giving the skin a smoother tone and texture.
Laser Skin Resurfacing
We offer the latest in non-ablative (removing) skin resurfacing technology with the FDA approved Palomar Starlux 1540 fractional laser system, here at Skin Perfection London. Unlike CO2 lasers which removes a layer of the epidermis as it treats it, the Palomar Starlux system offers a patented and revolutionary fractional, non-ablative soft tissue coagulation method. Tiny factional laser beams are emitted on to the skin which stimulate the production of collagen and elastin under its surface. Over a course of treatment, this can help reduce lines and wrinkles, improve pigmentation and scarring such as surgical or trauma scars as well as acne scarring and improves the skin’s tone and overall appearance.
This treatment is a superb alternative to anti-wrinkle injections as it can treat fine lines and wrinkles in areas where injectable treatments cannot reach, such as underneath and around the eyes. Downtime is minimal with this treatment as the upper layers of the skin are unaffected.
