Milia removal at your next facial
If you are experiencing tiny white, hard bumps under your skin in areas such as under the eyes, the nose, cheeks and the chin, you’re most likely seeing Milia. Milia are small collections of a substance called keratin, which is a natural component of healthy skin and hair.
Milia can also be a result of skin flakes that get trapped beneath the surface of the skin.
In either case, milia are harmless, but can prove a nuisance and impossible to remove with lotions or creams at home. At Skin Perfection in the West End of London, I see a lot of patients come to me and ask me to remove these annoying little lumps. Fortunately, we have various methods of treatment which work quickly, effectively and permanently.
Before any treatment here at Skin Perfection, it’s important that we correctly diagnose any skin lesion, lump or bump that you are concerned about and we have a super new device which can do just that. It’s called the ‘Skin Observ’. The Observ exposes skin conditions that cannot be diagnosed with the human eye alone. It does this by using a patented skin fluorescence and polarized light illumination technology.
It sounds very space aged but don’t worry, it’s completely painless and allows us to instantly reveal underlying skin conditions and propose a bespoke, tailor-made treatment plan for your condition, accurately and safely.
Medical microneedling for milia
Microneedling using devices such as the Dermaroller, Derma-stamp or Dermapen can offer a completely natural way to cure milia.
Microneedling use tiny needles to pierce the skin and prick the surface of the affected area, ravishing the epidermal later of the skin where skin eruptions such as milia can occur. The process stimulates blood circulation, induces collagen and elastin and helps to bring the milia out of the skin. As collagen and elastin are produced you’ll see a marked improvement in the tone, texture and general youthful appearance of your skin, as well as seeing those tiny milia disappear.
A course of treatment is recommended for optimum results and we will discuss this with you upon consultation.
Sterile needle milia removal
Another non-surgical, natural option for the removal of milia is using a sterile needle to prick the skin of the overlying cuticle where the milia is positioned and freeing the substance within.
This treatment takes around 15 to 30 minutes and although it doesn’t offer any other skin benefits, it is a simple and effective way of removing the milia, permanently.
How to avoid milia re-appearing
There are several ways in which you can keep milia at bay and these include using a good skincare regime at home as well as undergoing regular skin resurfacing treatments such as dermal peels. These treatments ensure that the upper layers of the skin don’t become clogged with unwanted nasties, such as dead skin cells, dirt and debris; this allows the skin to maintain healthy cell turnover. Depending on your skin type and the amount of downtime you are happy to undergo, we can tailor our dermal peels to suit you.
Milia can be a nuisance but are easily remedied here at Skin Perfection, London and we can offer you all the advice that you need to both remove these little white lumps and help to keep your skin milia-free in the future!
