In my lastest ‘Ask The Expert’ piece, I explain how LED Light Therapy works…
The skin is the largest organ of the body. It protects us against infection and environmental elements, regulates temperature and tells us when we are in physical danger by sensing pain. It’s no wonder then, that our skin can suffer with wear and tear as well as a variety of conditions.
Many of my patients look for effective treatment for a variety of skin concerns but don’t want to go down the route of discomfort during treatment or lengthy downtime afterwards. This is when I recommend for them to undergo LED light therapy.
Light therapy is a pain-free, no downtime treatment which can address a wide-variety of skin concerns.
What is LED?
LED stands for ‘light emitting diode’ and is applied as a treatment using device which consists of a computer chip encased in a glass-like resin that emits therapeutic colours of light energy.
LED light therapy was originally created to accelerate the healing of wounds and post-surgery scars. However, as a happy coincidence during treatment, practitioners found that LED light also rejuvenated the skin and gave the complexion a more even-toned appearance.
Nowadays, LED light therapy is used globally for skin rejuvenation and revitalization.
What can LED Light Therapy treat?
LED light therapy is suitable for many skin concerns, including:
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Uneven skin tone
- Enlarged pores
- Dull, dehydrated skin
- Skin lacking in collagen and elastin (loose and sagging skin)
- Hyperpigmentation and sun-damage
- Adult acne
During the treatment, you’ll be able to relax and even fall asleep, as many patients say that this treatment is one of the most relaxing that they experience. A course is recommended for the best results and we discuss the number of treatment sessions you’ll need as well as expected results for your individual concerns, beforehand in your consultation.
Am I suitable?
LED is the only aesthetic treatment that offers little or no contra-indications and therefore is a fantastic treatment for all skin types, colours and conditions.
It’s safe for around the eyes and will not change the structure or shape of your face, so is a very natural treatment to have. It can be used as a stand-alone treatment or in conjunction with other in-clinic procedures as a healing and soothing after-care treatment.
It’s a must for many of my patients who simply want better skin, without discomfort or downtime.
