Will laser hair removal work for you? Above all, there are certain factors which can determine the final outcome. Laser hair removal provides safe, effective and long lasting results, leaving your skin smooth and hair free.
Laser hair removal is a life-changing procedure, giving thousands of people in the UK more confidence in their appearance. And it’s a convenient way to permanently reduce unwanted hair. For instance imagine going on holiday without having to worry about shaving? Ant not the mention the time you’d save for things you actually enjoy doing?
Naturally when researching the treatment, the first question you’ll ask will be if laser hair removal will work for you?
First lets’s talk about how laser hair removal works
Laser works by emitting heat, that is picked up by the pigment in your hair and transported to its root. Which is what the heat targets and destroys preventing future hair growth.
DISCLAIMER! For a successful treatment you have to consider a number of factors. Some of which you may have no control of.
But some that you can consciously influence. Here is what you must watch out for:
1. Firstly make sure you choose the safest and most suitable laser for your skin type
At Skin Perfection you’ll be treated by class 4, medical grade lasers by Cynosure. Our lasers are classed as “gold standard” to safely treat all skin types with two wavelengths available. Alexandrite for patient with lighter skin tones and ND Yag for patients with darker skin tones. In conclusion, choosing the wrong laser will compromise the overall results. And not to mention the risk of skin damage it can cause, which in some cases can be permanent.
2. Attend your treatment regularly
For the laser to destroy the root, the follicle has to be at a specific stage of its growth. So not too early and not too late. However as not all our follicles are growing at the same speed, we’ll be targeting new hair cycles each time. Which is why we ask you to attend your treatments in every 4-6 weeks. But if we treat too early or miss the cycle the treatment won’t be as effective. For this reason, during your initial consultation we’d encourage you to schedule all your appointments in advance to ensure consistency in your treatment plan.
3. Your hair must have dark pigment
Our lasers work for all skin types, but will be less effective for patients with blonde, grey or red hair. As there is little or no pigment in the hair follicle for the laser to target.
4. Underlaying medical conditions
In some cases underlaying medical conditions, such as hormonal imbalance, PCOS may slow down the results of the treatment. As a result you may need more treatments compared to patients without these conditions.
