Are laser hair removal clinics open?

Are laser hair removal clinics finally open? And if not, when laser clinics will be opening after the lockdown? What you need to cautious of in the meantime? And how to prepare yourself for your treatment?

Laser hair removal clinics across the UK are currently on lockdown in line with government’s guidelines. Based on the latest update however laser clinics are expected to reopen from the 12th April onwards. We are so excited and definitely counting down every minute until we can finally throw away the razor for good.

To make it easy, we have summarised all the information you need to be aware of in preparation for your laser hair removal treatment in time for the clinic reopening.

Will you need a consultation and patch test before laser hair removal?

New patients – Before you go ahead with any laser treatments, you will need to come to the clinic for a consultation and patch test.

This enables us to:

  • make sure you’re suitable for the treatment
  • carry out an inspection of the proposed treatment area
  • discuss the procedure in detail, including expectations, possible outcomes and side effects
  • complete a small patch test using the laser, to determine the most suitable level for your skin type. And to make sure you have no adverse reaction to the treatment
  • give you advice and recommendations about home-use skincare.

If you would like to get your consultation out of the way, did you know, you can request a virtual consultation with one of our practitioners. This is a great way to learn everything you need to know about laser hair removal. And all that from the comfort of your own home.

How should existing patients  prepare for their next treatment?

In the few weeks before your next laser hair removal appointment, we ask that you don’t do any form of hair removal that pulls the hair from the root, such as:

  • waxing
  • threading
  • plucking or
  • epilating

If you have done any of the above, you will need to wait a few weeks to allow the hair roots to regrow, so that they provide a target for the laser during the treatment. You only need to shave or trim the hairs between treatments. And do this preferably the day before your next appointment.

To get the best results, you should also avoid sun or UV light exposure to the treatment area for 6 weeks before your appointment. Sun or UV light exposure (such as  a sunbed) can make the treatment less effective. And may increase the risk of an adverse reaction.

If you’ve had sun or UV light exposure  in the previous 6 weeks, we you will be asked to to do a further patch test.

Please note that certain medications and herbal remedies can cause increased sensitivity to UV light. And therefore effect the results of laser hair treatments. If you’ve started a new course of medications or there was a chance in your medical condition please contact the Clinic for further advice.

How to book an appointment once laser hair removal clinics are open?

As the first step of your hair removal journey at Skin Perfection London, we request that you attend a no obligations consultation and skin test. Firstly, this gives you the opportunity to learn more about the process. How does laser hair removal work? Why is it effective? How many treatments you need? What’s the best laser for your skin type? How to prepare your skin for the treatment? And about the contraindications to the treatment. Finally to confirm suitability we’ll carry out a quick patch test.

We are looking forward to welcoming you at SP. Our highly trained and skilled aesthetic practitioners have many years of experience, so you can be confident you’re in the best hands. And, you can be sure, you’ll always have a stress-free relaxing experience.
