What is the first thought you have when you hear the word laser hair removal? 99% of my patients ask the same question during their first consultation. Why is laser hair removal worth it? Well, there are many different reasons that make laser hair removal super convenient. I can tell you 4 reasons right now that makes laser hair removal worth it for every patient.
But first, let’s cover how laser hair removal works
Laser works by emitting heat, that is picked up by the pigment in your hair and transported to its root. Which is what the heat targets and destroys preventing future hair growth. For the treatment to be effective your hair has to be at a specific stage of its growth. However as not all your hair is growing at the same speed, the treatment would have to be repeated in every 4-6 weeks to be able to capture all the different hair cycles.
Let me share at least 4 reasons that will make you want to have laser hair removal right away.
TIME
Time is your biggest asset in life. It’s something that won’t come back to you, so you have to fill it with things that make you happy and content. How many times you sat there thinking you don’t want to shave again. But you had to. You were going on holiday, it was a hot summer day, you wanted to wear your favourite dress. And of course there is the most obvious one, you live in a relationship. The hassle, the process, the cuts, the irritation and the cleaning up. Did you just have a flash back? Yep, so did I.
Although laser hair removal requires commitment, its it nowhere near the time you spend shaving in your entire life time. In general it takes between 8-10 treatments to get hair free ( although this may be different for each individual) and then you don’t have to worry about hairy legs again. Other hair removal methods will require a life time of commitment and time sacrifice too.
INGROWING HAIR
Ingrowing hair is most common when you shave, wax or use other methods to remove hair. As either of these processes can result in swelling, therefore it may lead to irritation to your skin and result in pimples / cysts.
Removing hair using the wrong technique may result in the new hair growing in its place sideways or curl back down. As a result the pores can close over the hair which becomes trapped or ingrown. After this the skin’s natural reaction is to become inflamed and often very painful. Laser hair removal is one of the most effective ways of stopping ingrowing hair. This is because the laser goes straight to the root cause by destroying the follicle. Therefore it prevents hair growing and causing irritation to your skin.
MONEY
There is a huge miss-conception when it comes to the cost of laser hair removal. Although at first it may seem like it’s expensive. However when you work out the number of treatments that you’re having you’ll be surprised to learn it actually works out cheaper than waxing! Where as waxing have to be repeated at every 3 weeks for most part of your adult life, laser hair removal will get rid of your unwanted hair in 8-10 session ( this may vary for individuals where some need less treatment and some may require maintenance). In conclusion your overall costs for laser hair removal will be cheaper than a lifetime of shaving or waxing.
PAIN
Shaving causes redness, irritation and occasionally cuts and bruises. Waxing without doubt is the most uncomfortable along with at home epilators. Generally speaking most of our patients cope extremely well with their laser treatments and claim that it is much easier than waxing!
The laser sensation is described as being a little pinprick feeling with a heat sensation which stops straight after the laser has been fired. At Skin Perfection we have invested in Cynosure’s Cyro Cool Glides which the practitioners connect to the laser hand piece. Whilst your laser treatment is carried out, a comfortable cool air will blow at the skin, along and making the treatment more pleasant for our patients.
