Once you reach puberty your body starts changing and you’re blessed with excess body and in some cases facial hair. If I knew in my early teens how laser hair removal will change my life, I would’ve counted down the days until I was introduced to laser treatments. So how laser hair removal changed my life? And how can laser hair removal change yours?
How laser hair removal changed my life?
If you’re someone who experienced strong hair growth from your early years, you’ll know the exact same feeling. And it’s not only about self-confidence, but the time we’re destined to spend in the bathroom shaving. The pain that we endure during waxing. And the irritation that comes after, followed by red, itchy skin. Or worse, painful, swollen ingrowing hairs. I had them all. Not only my self- confidence was shattered since the age of 13 when I was bullied at school for my hairy legs, on top I had to also go through the painful side effects of shaving and waxing for years.
But be hold as soon as laser hair removal came into my life everything has changed. At first I was very skeptical about the treatment and terrified of undergoing more pain to be hair free, but I was pleasantly surprised and never looked back since. I can’t imagine my life without laser hair removal now.
And here is why;
– No more spending half of my Saturday in the bathroom shaving tip to toe. My to do list for the weekend started with hours long shaving. A pack of razors plus 3 sweaty hours later and with at least a dozen shaving cuts I was done for the next 2-3 days. Yep that’s how long it took my hair to creep back again and start the cycle all over.
And shall I even get started about holidays? Well at least 3 shaving sessions for a week long holiday. That’s hours on end I could’ve spent laying on the beach, exploring cities or whatever I wanted to do on my relaxing time away from the busy every days. Anything but shaving.
– No more shaving rashes and irritated skin on fire. Not enough that I had to tackle the hair on every part of my body ( even my face), I ended up with irritation, sensitive skin and rashes post shaving. These would last a day sometime even more and prevented me to shave last minute before big events as I always had to think of not being able to wear short clothing in case of cuts or rashes.
– No more wax burns, ingrowing hair – The pain of waxing was something I could only tolerate for a couple of sessions, but what really made me never go back again to waxing was the ingrowing hairs I have started to develop post treatment. If you’ve had ingrowing hair, you know how painful and uncomfortable it can be. And in my case it became so inflamed I couldn’t wear thigh clothing or anything that rubbed against my skin.
So overall I had a nightmare with my hair removal journey until I was recommended laser hair removal by my Doctor.
Laser hair removal for me
With laser hair removal my treatment took anything between 10 minutes to 90 minutes, depending on which area I was getting done and my treatments were scheduled at every 4-6 weekly intervals. 4 weeks for my face and 6 weeks for my body.
I had a full course of 8 treatments on my legs, arms, bikini and underarms, but my face required a lot more sessions. But I’m happy with it. It still saves me from shaving regularly and with no more irritation and breakouts on my face, my confidence is at it’s highest ever. At this point I attend a yearly top up treatment to keep up with my amazing results.
Although my skin used to get red and swollen post laser hair removal( due to the heat), it would completely calm down within hours and my skin was as smooth as ever. No more ingrowing hair, in fact it completely cleared my skin of ingrown hairs.
I can go on holiday and not think about shaving for a single second. As the years passed I can’t imaging ever going back. Laser hair removal has completely changed my life for the better and not only gave me more time, confidence but clearer and smoother skin as well.
How laser hair removal works?
Laser works by emitting heat, that is picked up by the pigment in your hair and transported to its root. Which is what the heat targets and destroys preventing future hair growth. For the treatment to be effective your hair has to be at a specific stage of its growth. However as not all your hair is growing at the same speed, the treatment would have to be repeated in every 4-6 weeks to be able to capture all the different hair cycles.
