What helps Keratosis Pilaris?

What helps Keratosis Pilaris? It’s summer, the weather is gorgeous and your sleeveless clothes are waiting to make an appearance. But you suffer from Keratosis Pilaris. Which means instead of enjoying the season it’s time to cover up and push them back for next time. Am I right? I know if you’re reading this you’ll likely recognise this habit. But why should you cover up? Why can’t you enjoy getting your skin out? When you learn about your condition and understand what are the main triggers the game changes. But what helps Keratosis Pilaris?

What helps Keratosis Pilaris?

Let’s start with the basics. The condition is to be blamed on the inflammation and blockage of your hair follicles, where keratin, a naturally occurring substance ( protein) builds up and clogs your pores. So the main aim is to reduce this blockage, keep your pores able to breathe and lessen the build up.

But how can you achieve this?

Laser hair removal

One way of reducing the build up in the follicles is removing the follicle itself. Laser hair removal is a superb way of treating the cause at its root. It’s safe, virtually painless and can be permanent! It works by emitting short pulses of light in to the hair follicle, causing it to stop growing hair and to close. This means that it can no longer be blocked by the Keratin and your condition can be drastically improved. The treatment may take up to 10 sessions for optimum results, but can be a long-term solution to this troublesome condition and far better than having to shave, wax or epilate the hair, which can be extremely painful and can exacerbate the symptoms. Laser hair removal is suitable for all skin types and you could see up to 95% permanent reduction in hair growth, so it’s a win-win!

Medical microdermabrasion

But if you have light blonde, red and grey hair, unfortunately laser hair removal may not be the option for you. However don’t despair, there is another way you can reduce the inflammation and this is by gentle exfoliating the surface of your skin, with microdermabrasion. And then apply specific medical skincare that will penetrate to your skin and kills of the bacteria and build up in the skin. Both treatment can also lighten the area and reduce the redness of the unwanted spots.

Personalised approach to tackle the condition

Your skin is as unique as you are, and where certain treatments may be suitable for some, others may find that certain protocols would work better for them. So to determine what helps your keratosis pilaris the most, we always recommend to attend a consultation with one of our expert practitioner. This would give them the opportunity to assess your skin and recommend you the most suitable treatment option.

How to book an appointment?

As the first step of your journey at Skin Perfection London, we request that you attend a no-obligation consultation and patch test. Firstly, this gives you the opportunity to learn more about the process. How does the treatment work? Why is it effective? How many treatments you need? What’s the best treatment for your skin? How to prepare your skin for the treatment?  Finally to confirm suitability we’ll carry out a quick patch test.
