Can you get acne with PCOS? Yes, unfortunately acne is another annoying result of PCOS. If you’ve been suffering from Polycysctic Ovaries Syndrome you may have experienced a range of different side effects, some may present more than others. Excess facial hair, increased weight, irregular period, skin tags, hair loss and problematic skin are just a few to mention.
Can you get acne with PCOS?
If you have PCOS you may have an increased chance of getting acne breakouts. This is due to your ovaries producing more hormones called androgens, which stimulate the production of oil in your skin. Perfect, just what you needed on top of having to deal with all the other side effects that comes with the condition.
Patients with PCOS often report acne that involves a tender knot under the skin, one which may flare up more during your menstrual cycle.
How to clear hormonal acne;
- Wash your face twice a day. To remove dirt, bacteria and excess oil it’s very important that you adapt a consistent skincare routine. But go gentle! First you should wet your skin with luke warm water( never hot!), then gently wash but (don’t over rub) your skin. And lastly rinse thoroughly and tap dry.
- Know your skin type. Understanding your skin will enable you to choose the right skincare that will also help you prevent breakouts. Aim to use only a small amount of products to avoid your skin being dried out, which will trigger excess oil production.
- Keep your skin moisturised. Did you know that dry skin can cause breakouts? That’s right. You should always keep your skin hydrated, but if you suffer from breakouts make sure you opt for fragrance free and non comedogenic cleanser.
- Limit make up. Applying a heavy coverage can cause blockages in your pores that’ll aggravate your acne even more. If you can go natural, or opt for mineral make up that is not heavy and greasy. And which is fragrance free.
