Laser hair removal burns are considered to be a risk factor. But are laser hair removal burns permanent? If the laser’s energy is absorbed by your skin instead of your hair, the treatment can leave you with burns. Some may be very mild, some more severe.
Before laser hair removal
Before undergoing laser hair removal you should always do your research. Then attend a consultation at the Clinic you’ve chosen. After treating 1000s of patients over the past 20 years, we’ve seen severe cases of laser burns. In each cases as a result of inexperienced practitioners using cheap devices.
During your initial consultation your practitioner will explain the treatment process. As well as the precautions that you must take before & after the laser procedure. These will safe guard your treatment. And ensure that all risks are cut to the minimum.
Laser hair removal burns can occur from;
Sun exposure
For the laser to be effective the pigment in your hair has to absorb the laser’s heat. As a result of sun exposure your pigment level increases. Because everyone’s different, therefore every skin will react differently. During the laser treatment this increased amount of melanin will absorb the laser. But may leak to the surface of the skin leaving you with burns. For this reason you must report sun exposure ( including sun beds) to your practitioner before your treatment. This will allow your practitioner to assess your skin to determine if you need a new skin test. To keep your skin safe and to get the best result out of your treatment you’ll be encouraged to stay out of the sun for the duration of your treatment course.
Medications
Certain medications ( antibiotics, antidepressants and prescription drugs) can cause photo sensitivity. You must inform your practitioner if you are taking any new medications. Or if there’s been a change in your medical status.
Inexperienced practitioners
Choose an establishment regulated by a professional body. For example Special treatment license by the local council certifies the establishment to carry out specific skin and laser treatments in a safe and controlled environment. To meet the standard the Company have to meet a number of safety regulations. Always enquire about treatment protocols. And never go ahead with treatment without a skin test.
