Are you still unsure whether laser hair removal is effective? Have you been reading a whole mix of good and bad reviews that left you doubt whether is even worth the try? The question is complex, for sure. And thanks to cheap salons offering all sorts of IPL treatments; without explaining to patients what the treatment involves; there is no wonder a lot of negative reviews are circulating out there. Laser hair removal is nothing like any other beauty treatments or hair removal methods. So when you form an opinion there is a whole bunch of factors that should be taken into account.
Is laser hair removal effective?
Yes, laser hair removal is effective. IF, and yes, that’s a big “if” you are treated with the right lasers and your provider follows a strict medical protocol. This sets out recommended treatment intervals, treatment settings, and a list of safety procedures.
Let me give you some insights about laser hair removal that will hopefully put your doubts in bed once and for all. At Skin Perfection, London’s award winning skin and laser clinic, at Oxford Circus, you’ll learn everything about the treatment and how you can maximise your results.
This will help you set expectations, give you a basic knowledge on how to choose the right laser for you. What your practitioner can do to deliver your results and what can you do to contribute to the success of your laser hair removal treatment. That’s right you and your practitioner together.
How does laser hair removal work?
Laser works by emitting heat, that is absorbed by the pigment in your hair and transported to its root. Which is what the heat targets and destroys preventing future hair growth.
DISCLAIMER! For an effective treatment you have to consider a number of factors. Some of which you may have no control of. Some of which you can influence yourself and have a direct impact on the success of your treatments.
How to maximise the effectiveness of your laser hair removal?
1. Firstly make sure you choose the safest and most suitable laser for your skin type
At Skin Perfection you’ll be treated by class 4, medical grade lasers by Cynosure. Our lasers are classed as gold standard to safely treat all skin types with two wavelengths available. Alexandrite for patient with lighter skin tones and ND Yag for patients with darker skin tones. In conclusion, choosing the wrong laser will compromise the overall results. And not to mention the risk of skin damage it can cause, which in some cases can be permanent.
2. Attend your treatment regularly
For the laser to destroy the root, the follicle has to be at a specific stage of its growth. So not too early and not too late. However as not all our follicles are growing at the same speed, we’ll be targeting new hair cycles each time. Which is why we ask you to attend your treatments in every 4-6 weeks. But if we treat too early or miss the cycle the treatment won’t be as effective. For this reason, during your initial consultation we’d encourage you to schedule all your appointments in advance to ensure consistency in your treatment plan.
3. Your hair must have dark pigment
Our lasers work for all skin types, but will be less effective for patients with blonde, grey or red hair. As there is little or no pigment in the hair follicle for the laser to target.
4. Underlaying medical conditions
In some cases underlaying medical conditions, such as hormonal imbalance, PCOS may slow down the results of the treatment. As a result you may need more treatments compared to patients without these conditions.
