After you’ve suffered through years of breakouts, spots and scarring you may be eager to receive some comfort knowing when does acne stop? And does acne ever stop?
Acne has haunted many of us throughout our teen years and adult life. And for the lucky ones, acne was just another part of puberty. But if you not part of “the lucky group” acne can be constant in your life into adulthood that can make you feel self-conscious and insecure.
When does acne stop?
There are many complex reasons as to why you are still suffering from acne. Some people just have oily/acne prone skin, but for others, the reasons might be more complicated.
1. Understanding what flares up your acne – What causes it, why it flares up and what makes it worse or better.
Greasy foods, chocolate, and dairy don’t cause acne but certain foods can aggravate it. If you’re currently following a strict skincare routine, but your skin doesn’t seem to be improving, you should evaluate your diet as the next step. Dairy and greasy foods are known to cause problems with current acne sufferers.
2. You are not on the right skin care plan
Each treatment plan should be unique considering your skin, sensitivity and medical background. What works for some may not be suitable for you and before using any products purchased online, you should always speak to your skin practitioner.
3. You are over using your products
Understanding your products is absolutely crucial when it comes to treating your acne at home. Many patients tend to over use products or mix the wrong skincare which can cause more harm than relief to the skin. You should always consult a trained professional about the right skincare regime and the person who recommends you these products should be re-assessing your skin’s response to them regularly.
4. You have not been consistent with your skincare and treatment plan
Inflammation takes time to calm down and heal. Always allow yourself at least 10-12 weeks before losing trust in your skincare plan. Also, I’ve seen many patients who were thrilled with their results so much that they completely stopped all their treatment/home care, only to find their acne has flared up again. Regular maintenance and a consistent home skincare is important to keep up the good results.
5. You may need prescription strength topical treatment from a Dermatologist
In some extreme cases, patients suffer from severe acne may need antibiotics in combination with their skincare plan, but this must be strictly supervised by the Doctor prescribing.
From 1000s of patients we’ve treated over the past 20 years, I know first hand how acne can be socially debilitating. I’ve seen acne crush the confidence of many people. And I’ve also experienced the renewed confidence that comes when we’re able to gain significant clearance of their skin. I’m overjoyed when my patients feel good about themselves. And so should you. Take control of your skin and don’t let acne ruin your confidence ever again.
