Timing matters when it comes to successful laser hair removal. As well as the consistency of your treatments. And this is something you’ve most likely heard over and over. But what’s the reason and when is the best time to get laser hair removal? When it comes to your treatment you want to be aware of your hair growth stages. As well as their direct impact over your results.
The importance of timing – When to get your laser hair removal
The hair has three main stages called the Anagen, Catagen and Telogen stages. And it’s working around these stages with an effective laser treatment that offers the impressive results.
Stages of hair growth
Anagen stage – Growth
This is the beginning stage for hair growth and it’s when the hair is visible above the skin and is still attached to the papilla (a knob-like vascular indentation in which the hair bulb fits). The Anagen phase is the ideal stage for laser hair removal as the laser attacks the papilla and prevents new hair growth from happening. The Anagen phase usually lasts around 2 to 3 weeks and occurs for all facial and body hair.
Catagen stage – Shedding
Not perfect for laser hair removal, this stage only lasts for around 2 days. The shedding isn’t like that after treatment as the follicle produces another hair. Therefore, it’s still possible to have the treatment at this stage to treat the new hair that’s growing beneath.
Telogen stage – Redundancy
This is the final stage of hair growth and is when there is neither hair shedding or new growth. The hair is no longer attached to the papilla. The Telogen stage is unpredictable and can last anything ranging from a few days to a few years!
So when is the best time to get laser hair removal?
It’s important to remember that there can be up to 2,500 follicles in any square inch of skin and only 100 may be showing. Therefore, laser hair removal will only be truly effective if you’ve a course of treatment and repeat treatments regularly, so that you can catch the hairs in their Anagen or Catagen stages.
Your should attend your treatments regularly, in every 4-6 weeks. Remember if you treat too early or miss the cycle the treatment won’t be as effective.
