Laser hair removal – Can you pluck after?

When you’ve used to plucking and waxing your hair, it might be a period of adjustment to get used to stopping these while under going laser hair removal. It’s important to address and clarify why some of your innocent daily habits could’ve a direct impact on the outcome of your laser hair removal treatment. One of these questions when it comes to laser hair removal is – can you pluck after?

Laser hair removal basics

Laser hair removal works by emitting heat which the pigment in your hair attracts. And then transports to the root. Which is what the heat targets and destroys preventing future hair growth. So for an effective treatment you hair follicles would have to be in tact, but only under the surface of the skin. In preparation for your treatments we’d ask you to shave the hair from the area. Preferably the day before to avoid any shaving irritation, cuts or bleeding that could interrupt your treatment on the day.

Waxing, epilating and shaving creams aren’t recommended as these can rip out the root. Which is exactly what the laser would have to target. As a result if there is no hair in the follicle the laser energy wouldn’t be picked up. And would lead to the energy wasting away on the surface of the skin.

Laser hair removal after care – Can you pluck after?

The simple answer is no! I know the temptation is instant especially when you’ve used to pluck your hair for years. However for your laser treatment to be effective your follicles have to be intact underneath your skin. Laser hair removal works by targeting a concentrated beam of light to the follicles, which are then destroyed.

When you pluck your hair, essentially you rip out your hair follicles. If you then attend your laser hair removal treatment, the light evaporates on the surface of the skin, without destroying anything. Which means your treatment won’t be effective.

In between your laser sessions at Skin Perfection, London’s award winning skin and laser hair removal clinic, we advise that you only shave or trim the hair. This way you can ensure the laser reaches underneath the surface of the skin, so your treatment will be effective.
