Do you suffer form acne or rosacea? May be even both? Acne and Rosacea cause redness, bumps, and pustules on the face. However, redness associated with acne tends to be located just around the pimples; while the redness for rosacea typically covers a larger area. Small red bumps or pus-filled pimples often develop in rosacea and these may even resemble acne. But one of the main difference is beachheads, that aren’t present with rosacea.
Acne or roscea
Rosacea is a long-term condition that mainly affects the skin on the nose, cheeks, forehead and chin. Although it may also be visible on the neck or chest. It may first appear as episodes of flushing or blushing, where your skin turns red for a short time. As it progresses, other symptoms may develop such as:
- persistent redness
- small red bumps or spots
- a burning or stinging sensation
- small blood vessels becoming visible on the skin.
You may also notice your skin appears red and flushed after going from hot to cold conditions. Or after eating and drinking certain foods.
Where as with acne, the symptoms are mainly present directly around the pimples.
Symptoms of rosacea
Rosacea tends to affect those of Celtic origin or have fair skin. The condition can worsen with stress and consuming ‘trigger’ foods and drinks; such as cheese, spicy foods, chocolate and red wine. The causes of rosacea aren’t known, but it seems to run in families and is caused by some kind of irritation within the skin. The condition itself it isn’t an infection caused by bacteria and the condition is not contagious.
