.Laser hair removal could be one the greatest investments of your life. Not only you’ll get rid of your unwanted hair, but you’ll eliminate your chances of getting other skin problems. Just to name a few – irritation, rashes, ingrowing hairs. Which aren’t only painful, but also can be inconvenient. To make sure you get the most out of your investment and get the best results there are a number of pre and after care tips you can deploy. These will not only make your treatment faster but also more effortless with little or no downtime. One of these tips is to avoid heat after your treatment. So why should you avoid heat after laser hair removal?
Why avoid heat after laser hair removal?
Remember laser hair removal uses a very high level of energy that generates heat in your follicles in order to destroy them. Your skin will usually look normal. However depending on how your skin absorbs the heat it may appear slightly red. Or may even come up with a little heat rash which is usually short lived. But overall your skin will be more sensitive directly after laser hair removal. To avoid further irritation I advise my patients to avoid hot showers, baths, excessive sweating, steam rooms, saunas, workout and any other activity that can cause excess skin irritation, which may lead to blisters and rashes. Keep your skin comfortable and cool for at least 24-48 hours post treatment.
Can you apply skincare to reduce redness?
At Skin Perfection, London’s award winning skin and laser hair removal clinic, we recommended Epionce’s Skin Recovery Kit designed for patients to use post procedure which contains anti- inflammatory ingredients and technology to repair the skin within two hours. Usually slight redness is all that you will experience, but by the time you leave it has usually disappeared.
Tanning and Sun Exposure during laser hair removal
We would kindly request that you do NOT tan or expose to direct sunlight or artificial sunlight– 6 weeks before and in-between your sessions. After your sessions we kindly request you schedule your holidays or sun exposure 2 weeks after-at the least to ensure your procedure is safe and to prevent any hyper-pigmentation (discolouration to the skin).
