Why you should’t do laser hair removal with fake tan? Simply because you’ll be putting your skin in to risk of adverse reaction, burns and pigmentation. If you’re wearing any fake tan all traces should be strictly removed before your laser hair removal session. And you must also wait at least 2 week post treatment before applying your tanning products.
Laser hair removal
The treatment works by emitting a concentrated beam of light. This light is attracted by the pigment in your hair where the light turn into heat which permanently destroys your hair follicles.
Why you should’t do laser hair removal with fake tan
During your laser hair removal treatment you should avoid tanning products. And any other activity that involves a pigment change in your skin. I’m thinking of fake tans, tanning sprays and sun beds too. A tan, regardless of whether it’s real or fake, can make your skin more sensitive to the heat emitted during laser hair removal. Not to mention fake tan products can contain chemicals. Those may clog pores, which result in the skin being more reactive if heat is applied to the area.
If you use tanning creams or sprays you should to wait 2 weeks. Then exfoliate until the product has completely gone.
Although it may be a temporary sacrifice, your tanning product will go on like a dream once you have no more hair on the area, so overall its worth the wait. And knowing that you keep your skin safe from an adverse reaction should be enough to convince you to never attempt treatment and always be honest with your practitioner.
