Certain side effects you may experience after having laser hair removal are totally normal and in most cases nothing to worry about. Laser hair removal is a medical treatment, that can results in skin irritation, heat rashes; or in extreme cases burns and scarring. However there are steps you can do the minimise your side effects you may experience from laser hair removal. What these may be and how to prevent getting an adverse reaction from your treatments? Here is everything you should know.
Side effects you may experience from laser hair removal
The most common side effect of laser hair removal among our clients is erythema (redness) in the skin of the treated area. Some clients describe post treatment sensation like mild sunburn. This sensation can last for as little as 30 minutes, but for most patients the skin fully recovers over the course of a few hours. Applying aloe vera gel to your skin immediately after treatment can help with recovery. You can return to work or carry on with your day immediately after the treatment.
How will your skin be after the treatment?
Your skin will usually look normal. However depending on how your skin absorbs the heat it may appear slightly red; or even come up with a little heat rash which normally disappear within minutes.
How to prevent irritation and side effects?
- We would ask you kindly to refrain from any strenuous exercise. Especially those that may cause friction to the treated areas for 48 hours.
- Please wear loose clothing as tight clothing may retain the heat in the area.
- Avoid any heat treatments such as hot baths, showers, baths, steam rooms etc; so that your skin can cool and calm down for at least 48 hours. In some cases you may need to wait longer, until the skin is back to normal.
- We would kindly request that you do NOT tan or expose to direct sunlight or artificial sunlight- 6 weeks before and in-between your sessions. After your sessions we kindly request wait a minimum of 2 weeks before directly exposing your skin to the sun. This so that you prevent any hyper-pigmentation (discolouration to the skin).
