Have you been loosing confidence in your laser hair removal lately? Have you already completed a course of treatment yet still feels like the hair is there just like before? Why is laser hair removal not working for you? What could have gone wrong? And is it too late to alter the outcome? You should voice your concerns with your practitioner who can evaluate your treatment progress; and make changes in your plan if necessary.
Why is laser hair removal not working for you?
There could be a number of reasons why laser failed to deliver the results you have been longing for. With laser hair removal being a medical treatment there are a number of certain protocols that one must follow in order to get the best results from their course. And when you have spent thousands of pounds, the last thing that you want is to feel like it was a let down. Setting expectations and possible outcomes should be done during your initial consultation so you can feel confident in starting hair removal.
When you feel laser is not working for you, you should voice your concerns with your practitioner who can carry out a detailed evaluation and talk to you about possible resolutions.
Here I have written a list of you should be asking yourself and your practitioner alike before giving up on your treatment.
1. Is your laser a true medical laser and is it the best wavelength for your skin tone?
Remember IPL is not the same as laser. And also while everyone can have laser treatment, not every laser will be suitable for your skin tone. As a result this could hinder your results, stimulate hair growth or cause adverse reactions.
2. Did you attend your treatments at every 4-6 weeks without big breaks between sessions?
Remember laser destroys your hair follicles which are at their growing stage. However this growth stage can be at different levels and speed for some of your follicles therefore the treatment should be done regularly to capture all the growth cycles. If you had multiple big gaps during sessions it will certainly have an impact on your treatment.
3. Have you had enough treatments?
Remember every patient can respond different to the treatment and even different parts of your body may progress slower on some parts while on others you see results quicker. A standard course of 8 sessions is always a minimum recommendation and in some cases you may just need to continue with more treatments.
4. Have you been diagnosed with hormonal conditions and imbalances?
In some cases underlaying medical conditions, such as hormonal imbalance, PCOS may slow down the results of the treatment. As a result you may need more treatments compared to patients without these conditions.
