What is Keratosis pilaris?
Keratosis pilaris is a harmless skin condition that appears as small pimples caused when hair follicles are blocked by keratin, a protein that forms the skin, hair, and nails. It is often found on the arms, thighs, and buttocks and appears on the face and elsewhere. Wherever you have hair follicles, there is the potential for you to develop keratosis.
Sometimes keratosis clears up by itself, but some people may have it for years. The pimples can itch, which can be worse in cold weather or when the skin is particularly dry. The condition is not infectious but does tend to run in families
Treatment for chicken skin in London
At Skin Perfection, we treat keratosis pilaris in two ways;
Laser Hair Treatment
The bumps are hair follicles blocked with the keratin used to form the hair. If the action of the follicle is prevented by laser hair removal, the formation of the bumps will be discouraged.
We use state-of-the-art Cynosure lasers to remove hairs. Our highly trained therapist moves a laser emitting device across the skin, which sends pulsed light directly into the hair follicle damaging it so that the hairs will no longer grow.
Medical microdermabrasion combined with Epionce Lite Refresh Peel
Medical microdermabrasion is a safe, non-surgical resurfacing procedure suitable for all skin types. Combined with the Epionce Lite Refresh Peel, it provides skin affected by keratosis pilaris with deep penetrating cleansing, unblocking the congested pores, and removing the keratin plugs that form the bumps of chicken skin.
Our highly trained therapists have treated many cases of keratosis pilaris. They will design a bespoke treatment regime addressing your needs, sometimes combining treatments for the best outcome. The cost of one session is £165.
