Exosomes are tiny vesicles in the cells, particularly in human stem cells. They contain biomolecules such as proteins, lipids and nucleic acids, and act as messengers from stem cells to other cells. They play a vital role in intercellular communication, tissue healing, regeneration and repair.

Frequently Asked Questions.

Does a Dermapen 4 treatment hurt?

The treatment can be tolerated by most of our patients.  There are many variables such as speed and depth that your needling expert can adjust, to enable your comfort.

There are however two-ways and two types of treating with Microneedling treatments. The first type calls for the use of an aesthetic cream to numb the area. If we feel the patient needs it, we then can apply prior to the procedure,  to allow for a deeper, more aggressive Microneedling treatment.

The second type involves using Microneedling at a shallower depth, then simply adjusting the needle depth, to sightly deeper depth as and where needed to localised areas.  This is preferred method and eliminates the need to pre-treat the skin with an aesthetic cream which can mask the sensation and take more time.

How will my skin look after and how quickly will I see results?

Visibly rejuvenated skin can generally be seen straight after the procedure. Your skin will look red, plump and glowing. It may feel tight and warm. This generally lasts for anything between 24-48 hours.

Following a procedure it can take  up to 2 weeks to fully heal and see visible results, further improving over time. A course of microneedling sessions is usually recommended to achieve optimal results. Using the correct home care prescribed by your skin practitioner at Skin Perfection London is really non negotiable, to aid healing, recovery and enhance your treatment results.

What are Exosomes and how can they help my skin?

Exosomes have been shown to enhance collagen synthesis, angiogenesis, cellular proliferation and to support wound recovery. 

An Exosome is a tiny, vesicle found in cells, particularly in human stem cells. They contain biomolecules such as proteins, lipids and nucleic acids and act as messengers from stem cells to other cells. 

They play a vital role in intercellular communication, tissue healing, regeneration and repair. 

Exosomes promote wound healing by speeding up wound closure, reducing cicatricial healing/scar formation, regulating collagen fibre distribution and supporting the regeneration of adnexa (skin appendages, including hair and sebaceous glands, nerves and blood vessels) via TGF- β receptor inhibition. It is argued that only human synthetic Exosomes have been shown to activate the regenerative factors required to promote effective wound healing, rejuvenation and repair. 

The Exosomes released by the youngest source of synthetic Exosomes, carry youth and health without negative influences to be very powerful in regulating regenerative processes in the body. Subsequent rejuvenation, particularly of the skin can be activated and enhanced for maximised repair and correction. 

Exosomes do not change the DNA of a cell. They are not gene therapy. 

Is Microneedling safe?

Microneedling treatments are safe when conducted by trained professionals and carried out in a clinical, hygienic and sterile environment.

For each and every treatment at Skin Perfection London, you can be reassured that a brand new sterile cartridge of needles will be used and then correctly disposed of for each and every single treatment.

Injections are not a part of a Microneedling treatment, so allergic reactions and side-effects are unlikely to occur. The procedure is minimally invasive, which means that there is virtually no downtime and the healing process is quick. You will be able to return to work and your usual activities, usually 24 hour after,  which is why this is a preferred procedure for many.

Aftercare is also very simple and can be fully administered at home. Your skin practitioner will advise you all the steps necessary.

Are there any side effects or risks associated with skin needling?

Side effects experienced with Microneedling  are usually minimal. They will usually subside within 24-48 hours.

They include erythema, dryness, flaking,  stinging, itching and tightness of the skin.

Again as long as you have the correct home care, which is prescribed by your skin practitioner, these specific products will help to manage your symptoms and ensure optimal recovery is achieved.

Should I be experiencing  a breakout post treatment?

On some rare occasions some patients, if they suffer with problematic skin such as oily, spot prone or acne prone skin, may experience a temporary breakout the day after. Sometimes the skin can purge or it can also  happen if you like to " touch or pick the at the skin,"directly after  the procedure. We encourage that all  aftercare is followed to prevent this including,  advice not to touch the skin after the procedure, as bacteria can spread on the skin directly after.  Your skin practitioner will advise the use of the acne "CLR"clear range  to help manage the skin and control breakouts in between. They will also advise incorporating the Uber Peel Pro to prevent the attacks of the spots and pigmentation after. This can be carried out directly on the same day.

What can be expected after the Microneedling treatment?

Day 1: Erythema and redness, severity of which will depend upon the aggressiveness of the performed treatment.USe all the appropriate home care to reduce the symptoms.

Day 2: Red or pink  due similar to moderate sunburn may persist. There may be some noticeable swelling on the second day. continue the use of home care. Only apply 100% mineral make up if you need to. A good quality mineral make up should allow your skin to breath, without clogging the pores, whilst protecting with SPF at the same time.

Day 3: Skin may still retain a pink hue, or return to normal colour. Swelling subsides. You will be able revert back to your usual skincare, preferably what your skin practitioner has prescribed to continue to enhance your results from home and get the maximum benefits from your treatment.

How many treatments a year can someone have? I understand its every 2-8 weeks between treatments?

A course of 3-6 treatments on average is recommended and safe depending on your condition we focusing on and treating. The treatment interval again will be explained depending on the concern you are treating also. This will be discussed at your consultation.

Should Botox users wait 6 weeks before having a Botox treatment?

Clients who have had Botox treatments should ideally wait 2 weeks either side of having microneedling treatments. It is perfectly safe to have with microneedling and advised to combine but you must give this time either side. Remember Botox is only relaxing the muscles from moving temporarily, where as microneedling is dealing with the skin health naturally, kick starting the rebuild and repair of new skin.

What can Dermapen 4 & Exosomes successfully treat?

Fine lines and wrinkles

The Dermapen 4 promotes a process of new skin growth through the science of Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT). The most effective way to stimulate or “Induce” new skin is by micro-needling with the Dermapen’s 4 vertical stamping method. This new stimulation can be done quickly and easily while keeping the epidermis intact and down-time to a minimum.

Pigmentation, melasma, dark spots

Dermapen  4 treatments are highly effective for treating unwanted pigmentation. The treatment is safe for all skin shades, but is a particularly advantageous solution for dark skin tones, where laser treatments may not be the safest options due to further pigmentation risks.

Acne Scarring

Microneedling treatment can provide drastic results improving the appearances of the scars with its new  scar setting. The micro needles of the device create new collagen and elastin to be generated and deposited called collagenesis, however the added benefit of new capillary growth is also a result which can improve blood supply to the area which helps create healthier existing skin as well as provide a healthy foundation for the new skin. Microneedling keeps the epidermis integrity full intact while treating the area which quickens healing time and causes less pain.

Surgical Scars

The challenge of a surgical scar lies within the matrix of all the forms or categories of the scars involving hypertrophic and keloid scars and pigmentation flaws. These scars thicken over time. The device’s unique vertical stamping and depth control up to 3mm makes treating scars superior to other devices without the scar setting/depth control.  With surgical steel integrity, the robust nature of the automated needle tip, penetrate difficult scar tissue, dramatically improving appearance, texture, elasticity, size and mobility.

Stretch Marks

Various treatments are available for the purpose of improving the appearance of existing stretch marks, including laser treatments, dermabrasion, and prescription retinoids. Some cream manufacturers claim the best results are achieved on recent stretch marks; however, few studies exist to support these claims. Microneedling uses the bodies’ natural solution for unsightly stretch marks. New collagen growth and stimulation is more effective for reducing and fading stretch marks. Microneedling does this through Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT).

Microneedling device allows for appropriate treatment needle depth to activate the cascade of fibroblast and growth hormone to generate more skin, collagen and elastin for smooth and healthy coloured skin. The skin of the epidermis effectively thickens and becomes noticeably smoother therefore evening stretch marks is the result.
