Dermapen 4 Microneedling London | Skin Perfection

Dermapen 4 Microneedling

Dermapen 4 microneedling is a personalised collagen-induction treatment for concerns such as acne scarring, uneven texture, enlarged-looking pores, fine lines and stretch marks.

Perhaps old breakouts have left indentations that foundation seems to emphasise rather than cover. Maybe your skin has gradually become less smooth and firm, or you have spent money on products that cannot reach the deeper structural changes you want to improve.

Microneedling works differently from a facial. It creates controlled microchannels in the skin, stimulating a natural repair response that supports the production and remodelling of collagen and elastin.

This change develops gradually. Your skin may look fresher after one appointment, but concerns such as acne scars and deeper textural irregularities normally require a carefully planned course.

At Skin Perfection, your treatment depth, technique and supporting products will be selected according to your skin, concern and previous treatment history. We do not apply one aggressive setting to every face.

Our award-winning clinic is located on Great Castle Street, moments from Oxford Circus and convenient for Marylebone, Mayfair, Fitzrovia, Soho and the West End.

What is Dermapen 4 microneedling?

Dermapen 4 is an automated microneedling device containing a sterile, single-use cartridge of fine needles.

During treatment, the needles move vertically and create controlled microchannels at depths selected by your practitioner. This controlled response encourages the skin to begin repairing and remodelling itself.

Dermapen describes its technology as creating up to 1,920 microchannels per second. Speed alone, however, does not determine the quality of your result.

The chosen depth, number of passes, treatment pattern, skin preparation, product selection and aftercare all matter. More aggressive needling is not automatically more effective, particularly when treating pigmentation-prone or sensitive skin.

Dermapen 4 can be adjusted across different parts of the face and body. Your practitioner can therefore treat a superficial concern more gently while using a different approach on appropriate areas of scarring or thicker tissue.

What can Dermapen 4 microneedling improve?

Treatment may be considered for:

  • Atrophic acne scars
  • Uneven skin texture
  • Enlarged-looking pores
  • Fine lines
  • Early loss of firmness
  • Dull or tired-looking skin
  • Suitable pigmentation concerns
  • Post-inflammatory marks
  • Surgical scars
  • Stretch marks
  • Suitable areas of the face, neck, décolleté and body

Why the consultation matters as much as the device

Two people can book the same treatment while needing completely different protocols.

One person may have shallow post-acne texture and pigmentation. Another may have deeper rolling or boxcar scars. Someone else may primarily want general rejuvenation and improved firmness.

Treating all three with the same depth and number of passes would make little sense.

During your consultation, your practitioner will assess:

  • Your main concern and desired outcome
  • The type and depth of any scars
  • Your skin tone and risk of pigmentation
  • Active acne, inflammation or sensitivity
  • Previous treatments and how your skin responded
  • Your medical history and medication
  • Your current skincare
  • How much recovery time you can realistically manage

You will then receive a treatment plan based on what your skin actually needs.

Which types of acne scars can microneedling help?

Dermapen 4 may improve suitable atrophic acne scars. These are indented scars caused by a loss or disorganisation of collagen during the healing process.

They can include:

Rolling scars

Rolling scars create broad depressions and a wavy appearance across the skin. Microneedling may help stimulate collagen remodelling, although tethered scars may need an additional procedure.

Boxcar scars

Boxcar scars have more defined edges and can vary in depth. Shallower boxcar scars may respond more readily than deep scars.

Ice-pick scars

Ice-pick scars are narrow but extend more deeply into the skin. Microneedling alone may not be the most effective treatment for these scars, and another approach may be recommended.

Post-inflammatory marks

Red or brown marks left after acne are not technically scars. Their treatment depends on your skin tone, the type of discolouration and whether acne remains active.

Some clients need a combination plan rather than microneedling alone. Learn more about our approach to acne scarring.

Can Dermapen 4 treat pigmentation and melasma?

Microneedling may be considered for certain forms of uneven pigmentation and post-inflammatory discolouration.

However, pigmentation is complex. Sun damage, melasma and marks left after inflammation do not behave in the same way.

Any treatment that creates inflammation can potentially worsen pigmentation when the protocol, timing or aftercare is unsuitable. Melasma, in particular, can be unpredictable and may recur.

Your practitioner will assess the type of pigmentation, your skin tone, sun exposure and previous reactions before recommending treatment.

You may be advised to prepare your skin first, adjust your homecare or choose a different procedure. Daily sun protection will be essential.

Learn more about skin discolouration, sun damage and pigmentation.

Can microneedling improve surgical scars and stretch marks?

Dermapen 4 may help improve the texture, colour and overall appearance of certain surgical scars and stretch marks.

Results depend on:

  • The type of scar or stretch mark
  • Its age, depth and location
  • Whether it is flat, raised or tethered
  • Your skin tone and healing response
  • Previous treatments
  • The number of sessions completed

Treatment cannot completely erase a scar or stretch mark.

Raised, hypertrophic or keloid scars require careful assessment because stimulating the area may be unsuitable. A medical opinion may be needed before cosmetic treatment is considered.

What makes Dermapen 4 different from a cosmetic needling facial?

Not every treatment described as microneedling works at the same depth or aims to produce the same degree of correction.

A superficial cosmetic needling facial may be selected for temporary radiance and product infusion. Dermapen 4 can be adjusted to more targeted depths when treating appropriate concerns such as acne scars and textural damage.

This does not mean that deeper is always better.

Safe, effective treatment depends on selecting the correct depth for the treatment area, your concern and your skin. Excessive trauma can prolong recovery and increase the risk of infection, pigmentation changes or scarring.

At Skin Perfection, a new sterile cartridge is used for every treatment and disposed of immediately afterwards.

What are Dermapen Meso-Glides?

Meso-Glides are professional solutions selected to provide glide during treatment while supporting particular skin goals.

Rather than automatically using the same basic serum for every client, your practitioner will choose an appropriate formulation based on your skin and treatment plan.

The selected product may focus on concerns such as:

  • Hydration
  • Visible rejuvenation
  • Uneven-looking tone
  • Congestion
  • Overall skin condition

Only products intended and considered suitable for professional microneedling should be used during the procedure.

A Meso-Glide cannot replace the collagen-remodelling process created by the treatment itself, but it can form a useful part of a personalised protocol.

Can Dermapen 4 be combined with an Uber Peel?

Selected Dermapen treatments may be combined with an Uber Peel when your practitioner considers the combination appropriate.

Uber Pro Peel

Your practitioner may consider adding Uber Pro when the treatment plan also needs to address concerns such as uneven tone, congestion, early ageing or superficial pigmentation.

Uber MD Peel

Uber MD is a more intensive formulation intended for targeted concerns such as suitable scars, stretch marks and stubborn discolouration.

Adding a peel increases the overall intensity of the appointment. It is not automatically the right choice for every client or every session.

Your skin may require preparation, additional aftercare and more recovery time. The combination should only be recommended after your sensitivity, skin tone, medical history and pigmentation risk have been assessed.

Dermapen 4, DermaFrac or Dermapen with exosomes?

These treatments may sound similar, but they are designed for different priorities.

Dermapen 4 microneedling

This is the main corrective treatment described on this page. Adjustable needling depths may be used for concerns such as acne scarring, uneven texture, fine lines and stretch marks.

DermaFrac

DermaFrac combines shallow micro-channeling, serum infusion, exfoliation and LED. It is generally selected when hydration, radiance and surface refinement are the main priorities.

Dermapen 4 with exosomes

Dermapen 4 with exosomes combines microneedling with a specialist exosome-based topical protocol. To learn more about Exosomes please click here.

You do not need to decide between these options before booking. Your consultation is where we work out which treatment fits your skin and goals.

What happens during a Dermapen 4 appointment?

Your practitioner will begin by checking your skin and confirming that treatment is suitable that day.

The area will be cleansed and prepared. Depending on the treatment depth, area and clinic protocol, topical anaesthetic may be used or the procedure may be performed without it.

A new sterile needle cartridge will be opened for your treatment.

Your practitioner will select the needle depth and pass the Dermapen 4 handpiece methodically across the treatment area using the appropriate Meso-Glide.

You may feel vibration, pressure, scratching or prickling. Certain areas, including the forehead and around bony contours, can feel more sensitive.

Temporary pinpoint bleeding may occur during more intensive scar-focused treatment. This is not required for every concern and should not be treated as proof that the procedure has “worked.”

The complete appointment normally takes approximately 45 to 60 minutes, depending on the areas and protocol selected.

What will your skin look like after microneedling?

Immediately after treatment, your skin will normally look red and feel warm or tight, rather like moderate sunburn.

You may also experience:

  • Mild swelling
  • Tenderness or sensitivity
  • Dryness and flaking
  • Tightness
  • Mild itching
  • Temporary darkening of pigmentation
  • Small areas of pinpoint bruising
  • A short-term breakout or congestion

The visible response depends on the depth and intensity of treatment.

Redness often improves over 24 to 48 hours, but deeper treatment can take longer to settle. Dryness and flaking may continue for several days.

Collagen remodelling happens gradually. Although your skin may initially look plumper because of temporary swelling, this should not be confused with the final treatment result.

Dermapen 4 preparation and aftercare

Before treatment

Your practitioner may ask you to:

  • Pause retinoids, exfoliating acids or other irritating products
  • Avoid tanning and deliberate sun exposure
  • Postpone treatment if your skin is sunburnt, infected or inflamed
  • Report recent cosmetic procedures
  • Disclose all medication and supplements
  • Discuss any history of cold sores
  • Avoid waxing or other potentially irritating treatments in the area
  • Follow any prescribed skin-preparation plan

Do not stop prescribed medication without speaking to the professional who prescribed it.

After treatment

Follow the personalised instructions provided by your practitioner.

You will generally need to:

  • Avoid touching or picking the skin unnecessarily
  • Keep the area clean
  • Use only approved aftercare products
  • Avoid makeup until advised that it is safe
  • Pause retinoids, acids, scrubs and strong active ingredients
  • Avoid strenuous exercise, swimming, saunas and steam rooms temporarily
  • Avoid direct sun exposure
  • Apply the recommended broad-spectrum sun protection
  • Allow flaking skin to shed naturally

Contact the clinic if you develop worsening pain, spreading redness, excessive swelling, pus, blistering or another unexpected reaction.

Who may not be suitable for Dermapen 4?

Treatment may be unsuitable or need to be postponed if you:

  • Have active, inflamed or infected acne in the treatment area
  • Have an active cold sore or another skin infection
  • Have open wounds, sunburn or significantly irritated skin
  • Have an eczema, psoriasis or rosacea flare
  • Have a history of keloid or abnormal scarring
  • Have poor wound healing
  • Have uncontrolled diabetes
  • Have a bleeding disorder or take medication affecting bleeding
  • Are immunosuppressed
  • Have active skin cancer or an unidentified lesion
  • Have recently taken medication that affects healing or skin sensitivity
  • Have recently undergone another cosmetic procedure
  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding

This is not a complete list.

Your practitioner must know about your medical conditions, medication, supplements, skincare and recent procedures before treatment.

Medical approval may occasionally be required.

How many Dermapen 4 treatments will you need?

The number of treatments depends on the concern and the response of your skin.

General rejuvenation may require fewer appointments than established acne scarring, surgical scars or stretch marks.

A course of approximately three to six sessions may be recommended, often spaced several weeks apart. Some complex concerns need additional treatments or a combination approach.

Six sessions should not be presented as a compulsory minimum for every new client. Your practitioner will recommend the number that is appropriate for your skin rather than applying the same course to everyone.

Maintenance treatments may be suggested after the initial course.

Why choose Skin Perfection for Dermapen 4 microneedling?

The device matters. But the person using it matters just as much.

Microneedling involves intentionally creating controlled skin trauma. Your result and recovery depend on correct assessment, sterile practice, suitable depth selection and realistic aftercare.

At Skin Perfection, you receive:

  • A detailed skin and scar assessment
  • A personalised Dermapen 4 protocol
  • A new sterile needle cartridge for every appointment
  • Depths selected for your skin and treatment area
  • Suitable professional Meso-Glides
  • Honest advice about when a peel or exosome upgrade is appropriate
  • Support with preparation, recovery and homecare
  • Treatment from an experienced, award-winning team

We will also tell you when microneedling is unlikely to be the most effective option. Sometimes a laser, peel or combination plan makes more sense.

Dermapen 4 microneedling near Oxford Circus

Skin Perfection is located on Great Castle Street, moments from Oxford Circus.

Our Central London clinic is easily accessible from Marylebone, Mayfair, Fitzrovia, Soho and across the West End.

Appointments begin with a consultation so that your practitioner can assess your scars, texture, pigmentation risk and treatment history before she recommend a specific treatment plan.

Your scars may be part of your history, but they do not have to control how you feel today

Scars and uneven texture can affect more than the surface of your skin. They can change how comfortable you feel in photographs, under bright lighting or without makeup.

No responsible clinic should promise to erase every scar. What we can do is assess the pattern properly, explain what can realistically improve and create a plan that respects both your goals and your skin.

Dermapen 4 microneedling FAQs

Does a Dermapen 4 treatment hurt?

The treatment can be tolerated by most of our patients.  There are many variables such as speed and depth that your needling expert can adjust, to enable your comfort.

There are however two-ways and two types of treating with Microneedling treatments. The first type calls for the use of an aesthetic cream to numb the area. If we feel the patient needs it, we then can apply prior to the procedure,  to allow for a deeper, more aggressive Microneedling treatment.

The second type involves using Microneedling at a shallower depth, then simply adjusting the needle depth, to sightly deeper depth as and where needed to localised areas.  This is preferred method and eliminates the need to pre-treat the skin with an aesthetic cream which can mask the sensation and take more time.

When will you see results?

Your skin may look temporarily plumper immediately after treatment because of increased blood flow and mild swelling.

A fresher appearance may become noticeable as the initial redness settles. Collagen remodelling takes longer and continues gradually over the following weeks and months.

Scars and more established concerns normally require a course.

Can Dermapen 4 completely remove acne scars?

No treatment can promise to remove every acne scar completely.

Dermapen 4 may improve the depth, texture and visibility of suitable atrophic scars. The degree of improvement depends on the scar type, severity, skin response and number of treatments.

Is Dermapen 4 suitable for darker skin tones?

Microneedling may be considered across a wide range of skin tones because it does not target melanin in the same way as some laser treatments.

Darker skin can still develop post-inflammatory pigmentation after any procedure that creates inflammation. Careful settings, preparation, aftercare and sun protection remain important.

Can you wear makeup after Dermapen 4?

Your practitioner will advise when you can safely apply makeup. It is normally preferable to leave the freshly treated skin clean while the microchannels begin closing and the surface settles.

Do not apply old brushes, sponges or potentially contaminated products to newly treated skin.

Can you have Dermapen 4 after Botox or fillers?

Microneedling should be appropriately spaced from injectable treatments.

The safe interval depends on what you had treated, where it was placed and the advice of your injector and practitioner. Tell us about all recent cosmetic procedures before your appointment.

How long should you wait between Dermapen treatments?

Appointments are generally spaced several weeks apart to allow the skin to recover and begin remodelling.

The appropriate interval depends on the depth, concern and response of your skin. More frequent treatment is not necessarily better.

Is Dermapen 4 the same as a home dermaroller?

No. Professional Dermapen treatment uses a motorised device, sterile single-use cartridges and controlled depths selected for different areas.

Home rollers cannot reproduce the same professional protocol and may cause infection, trauma or pigmentation when used incorrectly.

Can Dermapen 4 be used on the body?

Yes, suitable areas of the body may be treated for concerns such as surgical scars, stretch marks or uneven texture.

The area and type of concern must be assessed first

I’ve been coming here for over a month now for blue LED light treatment and can’t recommend enough! The treatment itself has done wonders for my acne, the staff are lovely and the location is great. I also think the prices are very reasonable and have recommended Skin Perfection to my sister, who has started the same treatment.

I have visited the saloon for 6 course of yellow LED light therapy. The ladies there are all very nice and gave me full information about the treatment before during and after the course of 6. It is quite difficult to take appointment within a short time so i suggest to book your slot asap as they get fully booked very easily. …

I had my first session of laser hair removal today. I was anxious but Lauren B was very informative, professional and patient. I even noticed results from my patch test. The clinic is sparkling clean and clinically spotless. They are fully informed and professionally trained and I’m looking forward to the rest of my treatments. …

… I’m delighted with the results of my recent LVL (“lash volume lift”) treatment. Lilly added volume and dimension to my stick straight, long blonde lashes. The curl and blue/black tint really made them pop! I feel so pretty and awake now without makeup, and with mascara, the extra drama is intense in the best way. So happy I found a way to enhance my lashe without those high-maintenance and damaging extensions.
    Lindsay Gray

… I have had a course of skin treatments: photofacial rejuvenation combined with a peel and my skin feels so much better for it. It can be uncomfortable during treatment but definitely worth the results.
    Steph Haverly

  • 4.5 out of 5

I’d highly recommend Skin Perfection. I’ve used them for my lazer hair removal and it has been extremely successful. They are incredibly professional, fast and organised, always texting or calling before appointments, always on time and the treatment itself has worked really well and I’m going to continue using them for more.
