Dermapen Hair Loss Treatment

Support healthier-looking, fuller hair with a treatment plan created around your scalp

Noticing more hair in the shower, a widening parting or greater visibility through the scalp can feel unsettling. Our Dermapen hair loss treatment takes a personalised approach to supporting suitable areas of thinning, with careful attention to your scalp and existing hair follicles.

At Skin Perfection London, we combine Dermapen 4 scalp microneedling with carefully selected professional scalp solutions and Dermalux LED phototherapy. The aim is to support a healthier scalp environment and improve the appearance of suitable thinning areas where active hair follicles remain.

Hair loss has many possible causes, so treatment should never begin with assumptions. Your consultation allows us to understand how your hair has changed, examine the areas that concern you and decide whether cosmetic scalp treatment is appropriate.

We will always give you realistic guidance. No pressure, no promises of overnight regrowth and no pretending that every form of hair loss responds in the same way.

When thinning hair starts affecting more than your appearance

Perhaps you have started arranging your hair differently to disguise certain areas. Maybe bright lighting, wet hair or photographs now make you feel self-conscious. You might simply miss the freedom of styling your hair without first checking what your scalp looks like.

Hair thinning can affect men and women at different stages of life. It may appear gradually, or you may notice increased shedding following stress, illness, hormonal changes or a major life event.

Common signs include:

  • A widening parting
  • Greater scalp visibility
  • Reduced density around the hairline or crown
  • Finer, weaker-looking hair
  • A smaller ponytail than before
  • Increased shedding when washing or brushing
  • Gradual male or female pattern thinning
  • Hair that no longer feels as full as it once did

Patients often arrive after trying numerous shampoos, supplements and hair-growth products. Some may support general hair or scalp care, but topical products alone cannot address every reason for thinning.

The first step is understanding what you are actually dealing with.

Understanding why your hair may be thinning

Hair loss is not one single condition. Genetics can play a role, but changes in hair density may also relate to hormones, stress, illness, nutritional deficiencies, medication, pregnancy, menopause, weight loss, traction or inflammatory scalp conditions.

Some forms of hair loss may benefit from supportive cosmetic scalp treatment. Others require investigation or management by a GP, dermatologist or another appropriate healthcare professional.

Possible influences include:

  • Male or female pattern hair loss
  • Hormonal changes
  • Menopause or the period following pregnancy
  • Physical or emotional stress
  • Recent illness or surgery
  • Rapid weight loss or restrictive dieting
  • Nutritional deficiencies
  • Certain medications
  • Tight hairstyles, extensions or repeated tension
  • Autoimmune or inflammatory conditions
  • Scalp conditions that affect healthy hair growth

Sudden shedding, clearly defined bald patches, scalp pain, inflammation, scaling, scarring or hair loss accompanied by other symptoms should receive appropriate medical assessment.

What is Alopecia?

Alopecia or hair loss doesn’t mean you’ve lost all the hair form your head. It takes many different forms.
Understanding how your hair works and what hair loss is, can help you figure out whats going on and why it’s happening. Most importantly also what you can do about it?

If you’ve tried many things, yet nothing seems to make a difference then we’re glad you’ve found us to find out how we can change your life and how YOU can take action today to get your hair loss under control, properly!

Who may benefit from Dermapen hair loss treatment?

Dermapen scalp treatment may be considered when you have:

  • Gradual hair thinning
  • Early male or female pattern thinning
  • Reduced density through the parting or crown
  • Finer or weaker-looking hair
  • A visible scalp despite hair still being present
  • Hair follicles that remain active within the treatment area
  • A generally healthy scalp without active infection or inflammation
  • Realistic expectations about gradual, variable improvement

Earlier intervention can sometimes provide more opportunity to support weakened follicles than treatment started after an area has become completely smooth or scarred.

That does not mean patients should feel frightened into making a quick decision. It simply means that a consultation can help you understand your options before spending more money on treatments or products that may not suit the cause of your concern.

Dermapen treatment cannot create new hair follicles, restore hair within scarred areas or guarantee that lost hair will regrow.

How does Dermapen scalp microneedling work?

Dermapen 4 uses fine, rapidly moving sterile needles to create controlled microchannels within the scalp.

This controlled process stimulates the skin’s natural repair response and may help support circulation and the environment surrounding existing hair follicles. The microchannels also allow the selected professional scalp solution to be applied evenly across the treatment area.

The treatment depth and technique are adjusted according to your scalp, the location being treated and your individual treatment plan.

Dermapen scalp microneedling does not simply involve passing a generic roller across the skin. Controlled depth, sterile equipment, appropriate product selection and careful assessment all matter, particularly when the scalp is already sensitive or experiencing active hair loss.

A combination approach to thinning hair

Hair thinning rarely has one simple answer. For suitable patients, we combine several carefully selected elements rather than expecting one step to do everything.

Your treatment plan may include:

Dermapen 4 scalp microneedling

Controlled microneedling creates microchannels within the scalp and stimulates a natural repair response around existing follicles.

A professional scalp solution

Your practitioner applies a scalp-specific formulation selected for your treatment plan. This may include EXO-GROW products where appropriate.

The formulation is applied topically as part of the microneedling protocol. We do not describe it as an injection, stem-cell treatment or guaranteed method of producing new hair.

Dermalux LED phototherapy

Red and near-infrared light may be used following microneedling to support the scalp and complement the treatment experience.

Personalised home care

Where appropriate, your practitioner may recommend EXO-GROW Hair Tonic, an EXO scalp mask or other scalp-care products between appointments. Products included will depend on the package you select and the needs of your scalp.

Each part of the plan has a purpose, but the most important part is still choosing the right patient. More technology does not automatically mean a better outcome if the underlying concern needs medical investigation instead.

What results can you expect from Dermapen hair loss treatment?

The aim of Dermapen hair loss treatment is to support the condition of the scalp and improve the appearance of suitable thinning areas over time.

Depending on your starting point and how you respond, you may notice:

  • Hair that appears stronger and healthier
  • Reduced visibility through suitable thinning areas
  • Improved-looking density
  • A healthier scalp environment
  • Less concern about how the scalp appears in photographs or bright light
  • Greater confidence when styling your hair

Hair grows slowly, so this is not an instant-results treatment. Changes usually need to be assessed over several months rather than several days or weeks.

Some patients may notice improvements in hair quality or reduced shedding before they see a visible difference in density. Others may experience limited improvement despite completing the recommended course.

Results depend on factors including the cause and duration of the hair loss, the presence and health of existing follicles, age, general health, home care and consistency with treatment.

No ethical clinic can promise that microneedling will completely reverse hair loss or produce the same result for every patient.

What may affect hair loss?

Different triggers can affect hair loss and the way our hair grows and some of these can be from:

  • pregnancy
  • hormones
  • diet
  • rapid weight loss
  • stress
  • illness
  • medications, in particular chemotherapy drugs, including the contraceptive pill, anti-coagulants and anti-convulsants
  • any auto-immune disease that leads to “Alopecia Areata”
  • hair shaft abnormalities ( just by simply wearing hats, scarfs, and tight hair band styles or even having extensions, can put long term stress to the hair follicles which can lead to scar tissue to the hair follicles.

Your Dermapen hair loss treatment journey

Step 1: Consultation and suitability assessment

We assess your scalp, discuss the pattern and history of your hair loss and explain whether Dermapen treatment appears suitable.

Step 2: A personalised treatment plan

Your practitioner recommends an appropriate course, treatment areas, professional scalp formulation and supporting home care.

Step 3: Dermapen 4 scalp treatment

The scalp is prepared before Dermapen 4 creates controlled microchannels across the selected areas. Your practitioner applies the chosen scalp-specific formulation according to the treatment protocol.

Step 4: Dermalux LED phototherapy

Where included within your plan, LED phototherapy follows the microneedling stage to complement the treatment and support the scalp.

Step 5: Home care and progress monitoring

You receive personalised aftercare and home-care guidance. We monitor your response throughout the course and adjust the plan where appropriate.

Hair changes take time, so progress should be reviewed fairly. Constantly checking the mirror each morning can make it almost impossible to recognise gradual improvement. Consistent photographs taken under similar lighting provide a much more useful comparison.

DISCLAIMER:

Dermapen hair loss treatment is a cosmetic scalp treatment and not a medical diagnosis or cure for alopecia. Results vary and depend on factors including the cause, type and duration of hair loss, the condition of the scalp, the presence of active follicles, general health, home care and adherence to the recommended treatment plan.

Treatment cannot create new follicles, guarantee regrowth or prevent future hair loss. Some patients may see limited or no visible improvement. Sudden, patchy, painful, inflamed or unexplained hair loss may require assessment by a GP, dermatologist or another appropriate healthcare professional before cosmetic treatment begins. Terms and conditions apply.

Dermapen hair loss treatment FAQs

What happens during Dermapen hair loss treatment?

Your practitioner will examine and prepare the scalp before dividing the treatment area into manageable sections.

Dermapen 4 then creates controlled microchannels across the selected areas while your practitioner applies the appropriate professional scalp solution according to your treatment protocol.

Where included, you will then receive Dermalux LED phototherapy. Your practitioner will finish by explaining your aftercare and when you can wash your hair or resume your usual scalp products.

The complete appointment generally takes approximately 45 to 60 minutes.

Does scalp microneedling hurt?

Most patients describe a scratching, vibrating or prickling sensation rather than severe pain.

Sensitivity varies across the scalp, and some areas may feel sharper than others. Your practitioner controls the treatment depth and monitors your comfort throughout the appointment.

The scalp may feel warm, tight or tender for a short period afterwards.

How many Dermapen hair loss treatments will I need?

We usually recommend a course rather than a single appointment because hair and scalp changes develop gradually.

A minimum of 6 sessions may be advised, although many patients require a longer course based on the pattern of thinning, their starting point and how the scalp responds.

Maintenance treatment may also be recommended because Dermapen cannot prevent genetic, hormonal or age-related hair thinning from continuing.

Your practitioner will recommend a plan following your consultation rather than applying the same schedule to everyone.

When will I see results?

Hair growth follows a slow biological cycle, so you should not expect to see a dramatic change immediately after treatment.

Some patients notice changes in hair quality, scalp condition or shedding before any visible improvement in density. More meaningful comparisons may take several months.

We recommend progress photographs under consistent conditions. Hair length, lighting, styling and whether the hair is wet or dry can all affect how dense it appears.

Does Dermapen guarantee hair regrowth?

No. Dermapen scalp treatment cannot guarantee new hair growth or completely reverse hair loss.

Its purpose is to support the scalp and existing follicles in suitable treatment areas. Results depend heavily on why the hair is thinning and whether functioning follicles remain.

Some patients achieve a noticeable cosmetic improvement, while others experience a more modest change or no visible improvement.

We will explain what appears realistic during your consultation.

Can Dermapen treat every type of alopecia?

No. Alopecia is a broad term covering several different forms of hair loss, and they do not all respond to the same treatment.

Dermapen may be considered for certain patterns of gradual thinning where the scalp is healthy and active follicles remain. It is not appropriate for every autoimmune, inflammatory or scarring hair-loss condition.

Sudden patches, scarring, soreness, scaling, inflammation or unexplained shedding should receive appropriate medical assessment before cosmetic scalp treatment is considered.

Can Dermapen regrow hair on a completely bald area?

Dermapen cannot create new hair follicles.

If an area is completely smooth, scarred or no longer contains functioning follicles, microneedling is unlikely to produce meaningful regrowth.

Treatment tends to be more relevant when hair remains within the area but has become finer, weaker or less dense. Your consultation helps us assess whether the treatment is likely to be worthwhile.

What are EXO-GROW scalp products?

EXO-GROW products form part of the professional scalp-care range we may use or recommend within a personalised treatment plan.

Depending on your treatment package, this may include a professional formulation applied during treatment, EXO-GROW Hair Tonic or an EXO scalp mask for home use.

These products aim to support scalp condition and complement your Dermapen course. They should not be described as injected stem cells, and they cannot guarantee the creation of new follicles or permanent hair regrowth.

Your practitioner will explain exactly which products form part of your plan and how to use them safely.

Why do you combine Dermapen with LED phototherapy?

Dermalux LED phototherapy uses selected wavelengths of light to support the skin and scalp.

Red and near-infrared light may be used following microneedling as a complementary part of your treatment experience.

LED does not diagnose the cause of hair loss or guarantee regrowth. We use it as one part of a broader plan rather than presenting it as a cure on its own.

What will my scalp look like after treatment?

Your scalp may appear red and feel warm, tight or tender immediately afterwards.

You may also experience mild swelling, dryness, flaking or pinpoint marks. These effects are generally temporary, although recovery time varies between patients.

If you have longer or thicker hair, the redness may be difficult to see. With very short, fine or sparse hair, it may remain visible for a little longer.

Contact the clinic if you experience an unexpected or persistent reaction.

Is there any downtime?

Most patients can return to work and ordinary activities immediately.

However, the scalp may appear red or feel sensitive, so you might prefer not to schedule treatment immediately before an important event.

You will need to avoid touching the scalp unnecessarily, vigorous exercise, excessive heat, swimming and unsuitable hair or scalp products for the period advised by your practitioner.

Follow the aftercare instructions provided, as these may vary according to your treatment and scalp condition.

When can I wash my hair after treatment?

Your practitioner will tell you when to wash your hair based on the products used and how your scalp responds.

Avoid washing the scalp too soon or applying unapproved shampoos, styling products, oils or active scalp treatments immediately after microneedling.

When you resume washing, use lukewarm water and the gentle products recommended to you. Avoid vigorous rubbing, scratching or aggressive scalp massage while the skin is recovering.

Can I continue using hair-growth products or medication?

Tell your practitioner about every topical product, supplement and medication you currently use before treatment begins.

Some products may need to be paused around your appointment, while prescribed treatments should only be changed on the advice of the healthcare professional responsible for your care.

Do not stop medication simply because you are beginning Dermapen treatment. Cosmetic microneedling should complement appropriate medical care, not replace it.

Can I have Dermapen hair loss treatment during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

We do not recommend elective Dermapen scalp treatment during pregnancy.

Hair shedding can also change during pregnancy and following childbirth, and this may resolve or require medical assessment rather than immediate cosmetic treatment.

If you are breastfeeding, your suitability will depend on your health, the products involved and clinic protocol. Please tell us before booking so that we can advise you appropriately.

Who should not have scalp microneedling?

Treatment may not be suitable if you have:

  • An active scalp infection
  • Open wounds or broken skin
  • Active inflammatory or severe scalp disease
  • A history of poor wound healing
  • Certain blood-clotting conditions
  • Medication that affects healing or bleeding
  • An allergy or sensitivity to a proposed product
  • An active medical condition requiring investigation
  • Pregnancy
  • A history or treatment factor that makes microneedling unsafe

This is not a complete list. Your practitioner will review your medical history and current scalp condition before recommending treatment.

Can women have Dermapen hair loss treatment?

Yes. Hair thinning affects women as well as men and can be particularly upsetting when the parting widens or the scalp becomes more visible.

However, female hair loss may relate to hormonal changes, menopause, pregnancy, iron deficiency, thyroid problems, stress, medication or other factors.

We will assess whether cosmetic scalp treatment appears appropriate and advise you to seek medical investigation where necessary.

Can men have Dermapen hair loss treatment?

Yes. Dermapen may be considered for men experiencing suitable areas of early or gradual thinning, particularly where finer hair remains within the treatment area.

Treatment cannot create new follicles or restore hair to a completely bald or scarred area. Male pattern hair loss may also continue without appropriate long-term management.

Your consultation will help determine whether Dermapen treatment is likely to provide a worthwhile cosmetic benefit.

Who will carry out my treatment?

Your consultation and treatment will be completed by a trained and experienced Skin Perfection London practitioner working to the clinic’s safety and treatment protocols.

Your practitioner will assess your scalp, discuss your medical history, select the appropriate treatment approach and monitor your progress throughout the course.

If your concern appears to need medical investigation, we will explain this rather than proceeding with an unsuitable cosmetic treatment.

I’ve been coming here for over a month now for blue LED light treatment and can’t recommend enough! The treatment itself has done wonders for my acne, the staff are lovely and the location is great. I also think the prices are very reasonable and have recommended Skin Perfection to my sister, who has started the same treatment.

I have visited the saloon for 6 course of yellow LED light therapy. The ladies there are all very nice and gave me full information about the treatment before during and after the course of 6. It is quite difficult to take appointment within a short time so i suggest to book your slot asap as they get fully booked very easily. …

I had my first session of laser hair removal today. I was anxious but Lauren B was very informative, professional and patient. I even noticed results from my patch test. … I’m delighted with the results of my recent LVL (“lash volume lift”) treatment. Lilly added volume and dimension to my stick straight, long blonde lashes. The curl and blue/black tint really made them pop! I feel so pretty and awake now without makeup, and with mascara, the extra drama is intense in the best way. So happy I found a way to enhance my lashe without those high-maintenance and damaging extensions.

… I have had a course of skin treatments: photofacial rejuvenation combined with a peel and my skin feels so much better for it. It can be uncomfortable during treatment but definitely worth the results.

I’d highly recommend Skin Perfection. I’ve used them for my lazer hair removal and it has been extremely successful. They are incredibly professional, fast and organised, always texting or calling before appointments, always on time and the treatment itself has worked really well and I’m going to continue using them for more.
