What is microneedling?
Microneedling is a rollering procedure that causes small needles to prick the skin. This punctures the skin and causes physical trauma. By causing trauma microneedling prompts the deeper layers of your skin to heal and rebuild. And also increases collagen production.
Collagen is a very important protein that will maintain your skin’s firmness, youthfulness and smooth texture. As you age the amount of collagen in your skin reduces. And there are other factors that will also result in loss of collagen such as acne, scarring and stretch marks. So it’s clear after a certain age and after certain skin conditions your skin may need a little help stimulating the production of new collagen. This is where microneedling comes in to play.
Are microneedling results immediate?
By puncturing your skin with the needling a micro-wound is created. Many patients are surprised to see initial results immediately after their treatment. However you should expect the full results to develop for 4-6 weeks after your procedure.
Results will also be affected by the number of treatments you receive which would be determined by the condition you are treating.
For patients treating acne scarring for example a minimum of 6 treatment are recommended at every 6 weekly intervals. Some of these patients have reported improvements to their skin as long as 12 weeks after their last treatment as well.
